Daqet El-Shata for Koshari

Koshari is one of the most popular Egyptian dishes and a beloved street food. Various types of sauces are added to Koshari, including hot sauce, tomato sauce, and garlic sauce. Here's how to make a simple and spicy Daqet El-Shata (hot sauce) for Koshari.

Serves: 6 people

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1/2 onion (minced)
  • 4 hot chili peppers (minced)
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 425 grams tomato sauce (canned)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon coriander

Instructions:

  1. Heat the olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the garlic, onion, and chili peppers and sauté for a few minutes until the ingredients soften.
  2. Add the tomato sauce and vinegar, then season with salt, black pepper, coriander, and cumin.
  3. Stir the mixture until it comes to a boil, then lower the heat and let it simmer for about 5 minutes.
  4. Pour the hot sauce over the Koshari and serve immediately.
